Pushing the peddle to the metal, sudden braking and speeding can eat up a lot more gas. The 1st thing to remember is when starting from a stop start slowly and ease up to the speed you want. When coming to a red light, stop sign or toll booth it’s better to let up on the gas and try to coast to a stop. This will save a lot of money on gas. Driving aggressively can use up 33% more gas on the highway and around 5% in the city. Drive at a constant speed, stay at the speed limit. If on the highway use your cruise control, it’s the most effective way to get the best fuel economy from your car. Always keep your tires properly inflated as indicated on the side of your tires. Underinflated tires aren’t only dangerous but can cut your fuel economy by as much as 25% and overinflated tires can lower your gas economy also. Always keep up with your cars maintenance. Have your engine tuned at least every 2 years or every 24,000 miles and keep the tires balanced and aligned. Drag on your car can cost you money at the pump also. Its best to drive with your windows closed to reduce drag. Things like luggage carriers on the roof of your car can cause drag also. If it gets to hot it’s cheaper to use the air conditioner and keep your windows closed to create less drag. Reducing car weight can also help save you money on gas by leaving unnecessary items out of the trunk. In the winter remove ice and snow from the perimeter of the underbody of your car. I hope you find these tips useful and will save you money at the pump.
